30 by 30
About the 30 BY 30 program:
30by30 is a charity activity initiative by the Henry Falzon Art Studio. It involves Henry Falzon painting a portrait of the sitter. The finished painting is donated to the sitter for free and the sitter pledges to donate privately to a charity organisation of their choice. Typical donations can go to organisations like Puttinu Cares, Hospice Movement, Malta Community Chest Funds, and other similar professional organisations, and NGO's, that help needy individuals, or tackle just causes, in our society.
The program is open on an invitational basis by Henry Falzon. The persons are usually chosen from the public realm without a specific agenda, and range from household names to lesser-known individuals, that the artist feels are suitable for the program.
The chosen sitter, who accepts the invitation, visits the studio for a chat where Henry takes reference photos on which he later bases his portrait painting. The visit and subsequent ‘work-in-progress’ work on the canvas are featured on social media with the process illustrated to encourage art students to take up painting.
The painting will be of a frontal mug-shot type measuring 30cm by 30cm, executed in oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.
For a second time, the sitter will visit the studio to be presented with the finished painting, which is all theirs to keep.
